Garnaut on 6th on ABC Melbourne was so NOT credible stating we can rely on air movement +daylight with biomass ( for soils benefit?) providing the store 4 quiet times. Unbelievably he is not over the technology, but in awe of it

Praise where praise is due  Pleased to hear some sound reflections on 774 re fire talk .
As the lack of posts indicate,  I don't listen much anymore . 

Risk management reporting is always difficult  and with all the changes imposed by meddling polys a lot of emergency services wisdom has gone out the window

 We need to really support those trying to broadcast well in risky situations.
Whoever does it can't get it perfectly right - risk management and fire esp , is like that so whether its CFA MFB OCRFM or ABC --- be kind as well as cutting. 
It's also a specailized skill not practiced all that often: with too many smart arse's( changing CEO's & polys ) changing what is essentially' basic. Polys have changed emergency services too much - change 4 blame/empire building 's sake? . 
The messages sometimes have to be repeated either to sink in ( "get out NOW , we are not coming to rescue you ") OR because they are so particularly relevant to a site ( fire is at ,, moving south - wind change is expected at _pm ) 
Been some good improvements by the media in terms of being clear -" evacuate early"

Will be a great day when polys and medai sing the same tune about how to make this a really clever country - when we listen to each other and give young people and on siters a  proper go on the radio

Just had to say what a pleasure it was to hear Red and Micallef celebrating the need for "trained" comment . The Queen got a wrap but many of us in the public service who trained  celebrated the respect  too .

Its been a long time between drinks  for those of us who have watched the destruction of the delicate , the slow and truly sustainable and substantive in government. All power to those in the ABC who report , rebuild and reform rather than restrict us to revolutionary and wrecking talk  .Such disunity and whitanting is immature and is making the West very weak in the the stakes of more dangerous and well tested ideas .
Save the ABC from its mediocrity but more importantly save it from those who close gates inadvertently and  worse; Those who close the gates for their own  religious reasons    .. From those who , even in their mature years,  do not know the wolf and where he resides .

Nick Economou was good value

A person who sticks to his area of expertise is always good ; Libby gave the bloke a good go today "Hooray"  . In the raging sea of controversy over whose best to run an economy (Clive Palmer nominates ) his was the voice of,  not just reason, but reasonability.
Having just personally challenged the Liberal party myself today,  to think more clearly about Jeff Kennett eras mistakes , I am aware that too many wealthy and high and predictable margin business people think running an economy is easy. Well it is a lot easier for some who have those margins to play with.
Some of the most productive people in our economy  run on low to negative margins ( agriculture mothers , volunteers,  families).
Premier Kennett , in changing the nature of local government in Victoria,  made the enormous gaff of suggesting farmers were poor businessmen . Victoria has yet to recover from this arrogance and ignorance .
Primary producers know a lot about the environment,  and would keep a lot of Shires from the blatant merrygo round of obfiscation that now reduces environmental planning to largely nuisance value in so many Shires around this Country.
Farmers are not against innovation and lead in many areas of it , even if they often need encouragement to raise the horizon in understanding other industries .

Backward technophiles

I don't listen to Jon Feine much any more . Like many Victorians we have learnt that his own prejudices affect his direction and approach to most matters. He shared with Labor a love of simple solutions and promoting them without talking to practical people ; a true ideolog  -Feine was partly responsible for the easy run that Labor got to implement its own half thought through iniatives like the desal plant  .
What Victorians clearly need from their ABC is a affairs service that DOESN'T" try to instantly resolve the issue  but, like the net Links, gives THINKING PEOPLE more info to be convinced about ( the great lack of the modern age )  .The unfinished symphonies of  ABC current affairs have too many violinists and trumpeters who got there licence with the ALDI packet where they bought the instrument .  
Even if the ABC tuning out is often done much more subtlely than many in commercial media ,the ignorance and arrogance of some cuurent affairs leaders clearly limit what we hear on their  programs; When an alternative point of view is about to come forward, they  " move on" .
No surprise then that after listening carelessly to all the grand schemes of Labor,  Feines attempt to NOW  distance himself from yet another of the many quick fixes he has promoted over the last decade - smart meters.
At 8:40 am ( high value newstime) Jon's guest on the subject of smart meters was not credible, but both presenters pretended to be .

ABC current affairs broadcasters can no longer hide behind the dumb question ( "I am representing the public " perhaps.  but not those thinking people in ABC territory who are beyond kindergarten )
The public will soon learn ( if they haven't already) that they can get better sources ,and more substantial information and most importantly less quick fixes on issues on a screen page elsewhere . Feine's  fanatical control of callers /guests will go down as an example of The ABC's new millennia  failures to move with the times in giving the people back their contact with other like minded and thinking people .

ABC programs MUST seek to put links on the web for call back callers (as agreed by callers ) and all there reports to avoid the feeling from time to time we all have that some complex matter is deal with that look like editorialized quick fix.We have our sources too----- so tell us YOURS!
A classic problem is the way ABCenv journos  are tempted acts a chief critic of new technology( coal seam gas)  as well as chief promoter ( soil sequestration ) without really being able to act as a reasonable  adjudicator of either . Links would help ABC be a leader in the area of encouraging young people to take science ( not quick fix - technology and politics ), ecological economy and critical thinking in the clever country seriously.

Feines full 3 hour sermons

This the bloke who makes himself out to be so equitable. Turned on for a minute this morning . One minute a year is enough to make you aware , that , you  or other competent people are never going to get enough alternative talk to change what Feine wants to go to air - his version of everything .
Sure "alternative": is there , but its never long enough  to win over the audience over Feines growing but highly predictable and simplistic sermons -sermons? -take how many " should's"  he uses.   " I don't want to be semantic ( even though I will go onto be )  : but  I think its quite simple "  ( to a Vet who knows what he's talking about about professional pain issues and where its is ); If simple is what you want simple is what you get on 774 in the morning--  its that how he wants his program?  Popular and fulla predjudice and half cocked crap?  "Gotta move on":  he always says - well we've moved on - even Neil Mitchell is better.
One minute a year is enough to say ABC local are wasting the opportunity to really make the ABC clever country again ; move on in the morning and don't leave  Feine in charge . I dare the ABC to set up a feedback line for Feine - fulla bull and fulla Feine - its not right.
